Why is Young Bafana now also in Switzerland?
The idea of founding our own Young Bafana Association in Switzerland did not come about overnight – it was the result of many conversations, encounters and a deep personal connection.
I, Fabian Stempel, have been part of Young Bafana since 2018 – I started as an intern in South Africa and am now passionate about carrying the vision forward. I now live and work partly in Switzerland – and over the past few years, I have felt how strong the connection between the two countries can become. Not least through my partner Naomi Dirlewanger, who is Swiss and also actively involved in the association, the desire became clearer and clearer: we want to make a difference here too.
We are receiving more and more internship applications from Switzerland. Some of these young people have already been on site with us in South Africa, worked with the kids, implemented projects – and are now carrying on the enthusiasm and spirit of Young Bafana. Many of them want to continue their involvement after their return. And that is exactly what they need a point of contact for.
With the non-profit association Young Bafana Switzerland, we are creating a bridge – between South Africa and Switzerland, between practice and support, between people who want to make a difference.
Our aim is to make the work of Young Bafana visible and tangible in Switzerland in the long term: through our own Family Club, events, school projects, sound fundraising and a growing community.
